The Hills are Alive...

My favorite musical of all time has to be the 'Sound of Music'. One of the first movies I took Lynda to see while we were dating was this classic. I have seen stage presentations as well. I sang 'Edelweiss ' as an audition song  for Gilbert and Sullivan at Western University in London and sang a medley of songs from the show for a Musicale.
Yesterday Lynda and I toured Salzburg, the home of the movie, in search of the scenic areas that were used in the movie. Of course we know that like most movies and TV shows many scenes are shot from the outside on their locations and inside in Hollywood.
This is the church where Maria and the Captain were married, in St. Michael's Bascilica in Mondsee, a few kilometers outside of Salzburg.
When Maria first entered from the Abbey she frolicked in this square and splashed her feet in this fountain and ran through these arches.
This the beautiful Mirabel Palace where the children and Maria were filmed singing Do-Re-Mi. They run around the Pegasus statue and in the gardens.
The children ran across
the foot bridge near Mozart Platz.
I'm sure Mozart himself was watching over them as they crossed the bridge.
The children on their carriage ride were amazed at this fountain and it's square.
There were other spots that we could have seen but a couple of them involved lots of walking and climbing that Lynda was not up to. However, Salzburg goes on my list as one of the most beautiful and easy to get around. The people were extremely helpful in our quest. The scenes at every turn were breath-taking. It was all I could do not to break out in song.
