Palatial Vienna: Mozart, Kennedy and Maria Teresa

The Emperors, Kings and Queens lived in splendour at the Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna. Maria Teresa who as a Hamburg ruled over the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and Franz Joseph of World War One fame once inhabited this massive structure.
In its rooms President Kennedy once sat with Kruschev of Russia to solve world problems, Franz Joseph abdicated his throne, Austria became a nation and a 6 year old Mozart played for an Empress and sat on her lap after. The rooms are filled with wood paneling such as rosewood and chestnut and carvings into the walls. There are mirrors for vanity and gold left abounds. Unfortunately they did not allow photos on our tour but we were able to take a carriage ride through the royal gardens. On a cool damp day it was a perfect way to see the beauty that the Palace offered.

Many fountains like this one are in the gardens
